Who can participate?

Any Canadian under the age of 22 who has taken and passed an eligible Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam can be considered for the Canadian Nationals.

Eligible exams for the 2027 Canadian Nationals are Microsoft Word 365, Microsoft Excel 365, and Microsoft PowerPoint 365.

Students must earn a score of 850 or higher out of 1,000 on an eligible Microsoft Office Specialist exam to be considered for the Canadian Nationals. Qualifying students are selected based on the highest exam scores, beginning with the top scores and working down. Meeting the 850 minimum does not guarantee a spot at Nationals.

Certification scores will be accepted until May 15, 2027. To be eligible to advance to the MOS World Championship, students must also opt in to the competition when prompted at the beginning of their certification exam. Be sure to select the competition participation option before starting your exam.

Qualifying candidates will be contacted by email on May 19, 2027. If selected, you’ll receive information about the competition and next steps. The Canadian Nationals take place during the day on May 26, so please be prepared to set aside approximately two hours to participate in the competition.

Is the Nationals competition virtual?

Yes. The Canadian Nationals is a virtual competition, allowing students from provinces across Canada to compete. Students may participate individually from their school, or schools with multiple competitors can bring students together in a designated room to compete at the same time.

Participation costs depend on how you enter the competition. For students participating through a school program, certification costs are typically covered by the school, although some schools may ask students or parents to pay individually. Independent students can also participate by purchasing a Learn, Practice, Certify bundle directly from CCI Learning. CCI Learning can proctor the certification exam, and students who meet the qualifying criteria can earn a place in the Canadian Nationals.

Students participating through a school program do not need to be separately registered for the Canadian Nationals. However, students who want the opportunity to advance to the MOS World Championship must opt in to the competition through their Certiport profile. If a student did not opt in when taking their certification exam, they can update their competition participation through their Certiport account.

Yes. You can still qualify for the Canadian Nationals even if your school does not currently offer Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams. You can share the competition with your school and encourage them to participate, or you can pursue certification independently through CCI Learning. Once you complete an eligible exam and meet the qualifying criteria, you can be considered for the Canadian Nationals.

Yes. The Canadian Nationals is open to participants from K–12 schools, high schools, post-secondary institutions, workforce development programs and corporate organizations across Canada. Individuals who are not affiliated with a school or organization may also participate independently, provided they complete an eligible Microsoft Office Specialist certification and meet the qualifying criteria.
