Three Canadian Students Named 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist National Champions

Students move on to compete among world’s best in the World Championship in New York, New York, USA

Langley, BC – Three students from across Canada, a high school and college student from British Columbia and a college student from Ontario have proven to be the best in Canada in Microsoft Office. The students will compete at Certiport’s Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship, the most popular technology skills competition on Microsoft Office and the only one endorsed by Microsoft since its inception in 2002.

The accomplishment demonstrates the incredible accomplishments that are coming out of technical education in Canada. Building a foundational knowledge of Microsoft Office tools will help the students thrive in their future academic and career pursuits.

The winners of the Microsoft Office Specialist Canada competition are:

Microsoft Word 2016: Allyanna Cruz (Centennial College)
Microsoft PowerPoint 2016: Noah Stelting (Surrey Christian School)
Microsoft Excel 2016: Karrah Parke (Kwantlen Polytechnic University)

The group will move forward with an all-expenses-paid trip to represent Canada at the 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in New York, July 28 – July 31, 2019.

Worldwide, the World Championship has attracted 1.5 million total entries and over 850,000 unique candidates from 119 countries. This year, Certiport and Microsoft have registered over 150 champions to compete from all around the world. Candidates will compete for a chance to win a $7,000 scholarship and the title of “World Champion” in their respective categories.

“I’m so excited to be going to the World Championships! It is a privilege to get to represent Canada as national champion for Excel, as many do not ever get a chance to represent their country on the world stage. I put in so many hours of studying and practicing, just as other Canadian competitors did, and it is quite moving to be rewarded for that.” says competitor, Karrah Parke about competing in the championships.

“We are honored to sponsor these students to represent Canada and we extend a huge thank-you to the teachers and schools that have embraced these programs, which have provided the students with a globally recognized credential; a National title, and now they are on their way to compete for Canada in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Wide Championship,” says Vanessa Knox, COO and President of CCI Learning.
