Dr. Tony Johnson, CTE State Director, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Washington D.C. discusses Washington D.C.’s extremely successful partnership with Microsoft and CCI Learning as they ran a Microsoft IT Academy pilot program in one of their schools.
(Jana Hambruch, VP of Sales and Business Development for CCI Learning speaks with Dr. Tony Johnson, CTE State Director, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Washington DC.)
“It was very interesting to us that so many people knew about the ability for folks to be certified. [We] got a lot of calls from community members . . . from advisory neighborhood commissioners, from grandmothers, just a whole array of people who see the importance of IT certification in our global economy,” said Dr. Johnson.
Now entering year two, the district aims to help all students become interested in Microsoft IT Academy, to earn certifications and become more marketable for their careers.
This is especially supportive for students from lower socio-economic groups. Students who Dr. Johnson believes need that extra push to become as competitive as their counter-parts.
“I believe Microsoft IT Academy provides that push and we’re excited about it,” says Dr. Johnson.
Microsoft and CCI Learning congratulate Dr. Johnson and are proud to support districts like these in Washington DC to give every student an opportunity for every job or post-secondary education.
